Running a business is an incredibly difficult thing to do, and whether you do it alone or you have a handful of partners, you know how hard it can be. When it comes to day to day management, you might have it down, but the big decisions like where to position your business as you grow or get smaller can be difficult.
Commercial real estate for business can be incredibly hard to find, especially if you’re looking for something specific for your company. However, that doesn’t mean you need to stop looking and stay in your current space or just take the first space that is close to what you want.
Use our guide to learn more about how to find perfect commercial real estate in Chicago for your business.
How Many Employees Do You Have?
One of the biggest considerations you need to take into account when you’re looking for a new commercial space for your business is how many employees you have. Obviously you’ll need a lot more space if you have 50 employees than if you’re running a business that only employs five or six people.
Another consideration is what your employees will be doing. If they spend most of the day on the phone making sales calls they don’t need tons of space and private offices. However, if you’re employing attorneys or professionals who need to meet with clients to discuss sensitive business, you’ll need to make sure they have plenty of space and privacy.
Consider how many private offices you need and how much floor space you really need to house all of your employees.
Location Matters
Not every business needs a prime location on the street where people will see it going by. Some businesses don’t even need to be in commercial areas where office buildings are the norm if clients and customers don’t visit the building.
If that’s the case, you can look for office space that is a little bit off the beaten path. You’ll get a better price per square foot and you’ll likely get a whole lot more space out of your office. Even if you don’t need it now, you’re likely hoping that you will be able to expand in the future, right?
Determine where you need to be and how expensive the area needs to be for your clientele before you start looking for new commercial space.
